Shea McCarthy
Shea McCarthy is an award-winning, accomplished artist who utilizes her talents to create a variety of goods and services. She began private art lessons at age 6 and has worked daily on crafting her style and developing her talents ever since. Her hard work ethic along with her entrepreneurial spirit have led to her work on a number of different projects.
An art major at SUNY Oswego, Shea was the only in-coming freshman in her grade accepted directly into the art program. She will graduate in 2021 with a BFA in Studio Art. She then plans to complete a Master’s Degree in K-12 education. Shea is the first undergraduate student of SUNY Oswego to have her painting chosen for display in the SUNY Global Center in New York City as a part of the year-long “Global Abstraction” exhibition in 2020. Shea has been awarded the Kathy Budd Emerging Artist Award, the Robert Sullins Studio Award, and the Al Bremmer Award by the SUNY Oswego Art Department. For the 2018-2019 school year, Shea was the Creative Director of The Oswegonian, the student-run newspaper of SUNY Oswego. Shea is the first undergraduate student of SUNY Oswego to have her painting chosen for display in the SUNY Global Center in New York City as a part of the year-long “Global Abstraction” exhibition in 2020. She enjoys creating in oil paint, film, watercolor, and ink. In the spring of 2018, she was awarded the Kathy Budd Emerging Artist Award by the SUNY Oswego Art Department. She was one of two students chosen to represent the art program in the campus-wide View Books publication for the college for both students and staff. She is the creative director for the Oswegonian newspaper, has had her art work published in the paper, and also has had her graphic designs for the newspaper printed as well. She plans on graduating with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and Masters in Art Education.


In 2017, Shea had one of her acrylic painting titled ‘City Life” was chosen displayed at the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY as part of the Future Curators Exhibition. Her painting was one of only a few chosen from hundreds of submissions from students across New York and southern Ontario. She also has had a painting chosen for an art gallery showing in Schondorf, Germany.
She has developed a number of art skills including face painting, personalized gifts, tattoo design, paintings, ornaments, etc. She began face painting at age 11 and quickly became a saught-after event professional. She is hired to do face painting for family events for companies and for public and private events as well. She has also sells numerous paintings, ornaments and personalized gifts at a variety of art shows and directly to clients as well.
